Why should we expect malware to disappear if there is no business model supporting that?

You buy an amazingly cool camera for $349 you take it homeall excited….open up the boxcharge itstart using ittake few nice shots….wowreally cool camera ….look at the colours….very vivid….but waitthe button stopped workingoh noois it the battery? let me check….nopeit just stopped working 🙁 very frustrating…. let me take it back…..not happy

Shop Keeper: Hi Sir, how can help you?

Frustrated You: Hi, I bought this camera from you guys yesterday and it stopped working. Here is the receipt btw.

Shop Keeper: Ok thanks. Pls leave the camera with us and we will make sure to fix it for you. But it will cost you $99.

(even more) Frustated You: (doing a John McEnroe moment), YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS! You give me a product, that is supposed to work, and when it doesn’t work you ask me to pay more to get it fixed? YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!

Doesn’t sound right does it? Something wrong……there is simply no incentive for the camera provider to build camera’s that actually work. You know what, actually this would be a great revenue generation for anyone selling that Camera. Of course, i hear you say, but i would go buy it from some other camera provider…but what if they all worked this way?

Frustrating right? Right….

Not ethical right? Right….

Surely there is no industry that does that right? WRONG!

Major AntiVirus companies charge you more money for cleaning an infection that they did not prevent in the first place! Yep, you read it right. You buy their Antivirus product, pay top dollars, then they fail to protect you and you get in touch with them and they say,

pay us $99 (Symantec) or $89 (McAfee) to clean your computer.

This is why we need a new business model. A business model where if the user gets infected, then security provider must bear the costs. Then  security companies will be incentivised to keep the computer clean as an infection will mean additional cost to them.

GeekBuddy.com! First time ever, a security provider brings this business model to the masses! $49 a year all you can eat remote support and security. The last thing we want is for you to get infected. Everytime you get infected, it costs us money. So your and our interest are aligned to keep your computer clean of infections!
